I have a confession...

I'm a 39 year old women and I LOVE YOUNG ADULT BOOKS. It started almost a year ago. I blame my pre-teen. She did this to me. I had not a clue that I was one of them. You know a "Twilighter". It all started one Friday afternoon. I was taking my daughter and her friends to the much anticipated "Twilight" movie. I really could careless about the film but as the wonderful mother that I am, I agreed to escort them. Much to my surprise I loved it. Since I loved the movie and my daughter had the book I decided to read it. Just a little history about me. I was not a fiction book reader.

I loved the book even more than the movie. I couldn’t put it down. When I was done I had to read the next book in the series "New Moon". This is when I visited the public library. I hadn't been there in very long time. I got myself a library card and went to find the book. "Checked out, what?" "Waiting list, what?" I needed to read it NOW! Uh oh, who was that? Me needing to read a book now? So I put “New Moon” on the wait list along with “Eclipse” and “Breaking Dawn“. I might of not have been a big reader but I'm not stupid.

Lucky for me the wait for “New Moon” was only a few days. Read it in a couple. A week and a half later both “Eclipse” and “Breaking Dawn” came in. Read them both in a weekend.

These books changed me. I loved the way they made me feel. The way I couldn't wait to go to bed so I could read. I no longer sat in front of the TV going to bed depressed because of the horrible events being broadcast on the nightly news. I was going to bed with a smile on my face looking forward to tomorrow so I could read some more.

Since I was a new fan of Stephanie Meyer I tried her adult book "The Host". I only got a few chapters in. Just didn't do it for me. So what was it? I liked her style of writing. Was it because “The Host” wasn't about vampires? “Oh no, maybe I'm a vampire lover not YA book lover.”

For my birthday my daughter bought me "Marked" A House of Night Novel by P.C. Cast and Kristen Cast. Wasn't sure at first if I liked it or not. It just wasn't "Twilight". But the more I read the more I started to like it. Of course I had to read "Betrayed" right after. After "Betrayed" I read "Vampire Diaries" by L.J. Smith. I started to think it was a vampire thing until I read “Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins. I LOVED “Hunger Games”. I’m on the wait list for "Catching Fire” and I can‘t wait to read it. No vampire in that series. So I'm happy to report I might like the vampires but it's the Young Adult books that I love (though the majority of the books I’ve read this past year are about vampires). I'm going to keep this blog as a Diary of all the books I've read and plan to read.

I want to thank my daughter for being a Twilight fan and Stephanie Meyer for Twilight. You've opened up a whole new world to me and I thank you for that.
